Hepatitis
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. It may be acute or chronic. If it is acute it is caused by one of three viruses: A,B or C.
The symptoms of Acute Hepatitis are: jaundice (yellowing of the skin), fatigue, fever, vomiting, loss of appetite, pain in the abdomen and liver tenderness.
Hepatitis A – Infectious Hepatitis – is carried in food or water infected by faeces. Hepatitis B and C are carried in blood or body fluids, by transfusion, sharing needles, tatooing or sexual intercourse.
Chronic Hepatitis can follow Acute Hepatitis, or may develop as a result of long-term alcohol consumption, in which case cirrhosis of the liver might be the result.
Acute Hepatitis is generally treated by lifestyle changes: bed rest, plenty of fluids, and no meat, fat or alcohol. Chronic Hepatitis generally resists treatment.
Tip: the herb, milk-thistle, is a staple ingredient in liver detox remedies, as it protects the liver from damage.
